I have been having a slight dilemma about music recently. It's not the type of thing that you can control whether you like or not. It's either pleasing to the ears, or it isn't. You can't go by the methods and principles of a certain band to determine if you like their music. Even if you could, these probably would be hard to find. You can go by those when deciding to buy one of their albums, but not in actually liking them. So here's the problem: the majority of the music we hear everyday (most likely) is put out by all the big corporate major labels (the capitalist swine). So in buying an album put out by them, you are in turn supporting the big corporations. Personally, my favorite band is Nine Inch Nails. Now I can't stop loving their music, and I probably won't stop buying their albums. But I will start to be more critical in selecting music in the future. I started listening to NIN about 6 or so years ago, and I can't hate them now. I don't even want to hate them, I want to hate their label, though Reznor does have his own small one off Interscope. All I'm saying is that you should support independent music (and especially anarchist), and limit the amount of albums you buy put out by the corporate music giants. Because chances are they are more innovative (at least compared to most of the most popular acts), a little less generic, and just as good; you just haven't heard of them--I know I haven't heard of half of them out there.
Nearly all of this is some form of punk--it will be noted when not. If anyone knows of some non-punk anarchist bands (especially industrial), let me know about them. They don't even have to be anarchist, just being on an independent label would be good. Those with * beside them are ones I like (mainly because I haven't heard most of the others).
Oh, more more thing before the bands: here's a good article about the "Walmarting of music". (Well there WAS a good article, I don't know what happened to it. I don't remember deleting it...perhaps geocities stepped in and didn't tell me. Fuck em.) And speaking of Walmart, even if you do get albums put out by the major labels, it would be much better to buy them from an independent store, rather than a huge franchise such as fucking Walmart.
