MIN-PAOChinese language journal issued in Paris (published from ? - 1910)
The editor of the secret Min-pao was Wang Ching-wei (also: Wang Jing Wei; 1883 - 1944), an ardent supporter of Sun & one definitely influenced by the anarchist writings of this period... [There were early ties between Sun Yat-sen & the Paris anarchist group. Chang Ching-chiang, an anarchist who opposed religion joined "T'ung Meng Hui" in 1905; Sun later offered positions both in the Kuomintang and in the government to his old anarchist friends.]Chang Ping-lin (T'ai-yen) and certain other "T'ung Meng Hui" members in Tokyo launched a movement to oust Sun as head of the revolutionary movement. Chang became editor of the Min-pao, & opposed the anarchists.
Wang was to be the final hero of the Paris journal. Its last issue, published on May 21, 1910, might well have been called the Wang Ching-wei special edition, since it was devoted almost entirely to praise of Wang for his attempted assassination of the Manchu Prince Regent.
His politics "fluctuated" & after the death of Sun Yat-sen Wang moved to the right & was the principal rival of Chiang Kai-shek. In 1938 he left the Nationalist government over his support for a peace settlement with Japan, & fled to Hanoi. Two years later he was installed by the Japanese as head of a puppet regime in Nanking.
