||||
|
On May 3, 1886, striking employees of the McCormick Reaper Works clashed with replacement workers. Police retaliated against the striking employees, killing two. August Spies witnessed the bloodshed and was inspired to compose the "Revenge" broadside, which called for a unified response from the anarchists and workers of Chicago. The deaths at the McCormick factory inspired the rally at Haymarket the following day. |
