The word was Aldred's last journal. It appeared monthly from 1939-1965, another editor taking over in 1963. This was a Glasgow publication and was intended to challenge the establishment society of Glasgow. Its title is partly a mockery of the motto of Glasgow at this time, 'Let Glasgow flourish by the preaching of the word', and partly a mockery of the Church itself (Aldred was an atheist by this time).
